International Women’s Day: Why We Celebrated on 8th March

Jaipur| Sunday is International Women’s Day, the annual celebration of the achievements made by women around the world. To celebrate women coming together from around the world and across generations. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘#EachforEqual’ which is meant to be a shared goal throughout 2020. “We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations, and celebrate women’s achievements.”

Why We Celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8?
Members of the women’s movement in Russia during World War I celebrated the first International Women’s Day on March 8, 1913 to peacefully protest the war. A year later, women across Europe held rallies in solidarity on that same date.

On March 8, 1917, thousands of women in Petrograd rallied together for “Bread and Peace.” This demonstration helped spark the Russian Revoluion.

Following World War II, countries from all continents began using March 8 as a marker for advocating women’s equality.

The United Nations is focusing this year on gender equality and human rights for all women and girls. The theme of the commemoration is: “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.”

Celebraties are Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and others “saluting” the female power. Sharing pictures of the women in their lives, the hunks were seen putting out heartwarming messages.
